Carbon offset programmes available through our broker network.

Aviation produces carbon emissions, and charter flights are no exception. The most immediate tool available to address this impact is carbon offsetting, where verified carbon credits fund projects that reduce or capture an equivalent amount of emissions elsewhere. Several of our broker partners offer opt-in offset programmes as part of their booking process, allowing you to compensate for your flight's emissions by contributing to certified environmental projects. The cost and methodology vary by broker, with programmes aligned with recognized international carbon standards.

  • Air Charter Service: ACS offers an opt-in carbon offset programme developed in partnership with Carbon Trade eXchange (CTX), calculated based on flight distance and aircraft fuel burn. Contributions fund certified climate projects across renewable energy, forestry and sustainable development.

  • Jet Luxe: Jet Luxe holds a 4AIR Level 2 rating, addressing not only CO2 but also non-carbon climate impacts such as nitrogen oxides and contrail-induced cloudiness. Their programme uses verified offsets to neutralize the total climate footprint of each flight.

  • Client choice: Carbon offsetting is voluntary. When you submit a request through IONA JETS, broker partners can include offset options in their proposal so you can decide whether and how to participate based on your own environmental policy.

Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and emissions reduction.

Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is produced from renewable sources such as waste oils, agricultural residues or captured carbon rather than conventional petroleum. SAF can reduce lifecycle carbon emissions by up to 80% compared to traditional jet fuel at full blend, though current regulations typically limit blending to 50%. Availability remains limited and costs significantly more than conventional fuel, but production is scaling. Our broker partners can advise on SAF availability for your route and offer Book and Claim arrangements where SAF is not available at your departure point.

  • SAF availability: SAF is currently available at a growing number of major airports worldwide, though coverage remains uneven. Broker partners check availability at your departure point and advise on whether physical uplift or Book and Claim is the most practical option for your flight.

  • Emissions reduction potential: SAF reduces lifecycle CO2 emissions by up to 80% compared to fossil jet fuel at full blend. At the current regulatory maximum of 50% blend, the effective reduction is proportionally lower but still meaningful.

  • Cost transparency: SAF is currently approximately three times the cost of conventional jet fuel. Broker partners include SAF pricing in their proposal when requested, so you can evaluate the additional cost against your environmental objectives before confirming.

Fleet efficiency and operational practices.

Beyond offsetting and alternative fuels, the environmental footprint of a charter flight is influenced by the aircraft selected and the operational decisions made during planning. Newer-generation aircraft are significantly more fuel-efficient, and optimized routing and altitude selection contribute to reducing fuel burn. Our broker partners factor these considerations into their recommendations, sourcing modern types when available and proposing direct routing that minimizes fuel consumption, subject to aircraft availability and operational requirements.

  • Modern fleet sourcing: Broker partners can prioritize newer-generation aircraft with improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions profiles when your environmental policy or corporate travel standards require it, subject to availability on your route.

  • Route optimization: Direct routing, optimal altitude selection and efficient flight planning reduce fuel burn compared to indirect commercial routings with multiple connections, contributing to a lower emissions profile per mission.

  • Right-sizing aircraft: Selecting an aircraft matched to your actual passenger count and route distance avoids the excess fuel burn of chartering capacity you do not need, which is one of the simplest ways to reduce the environmental impact of a charter flight.

Industry investment and the path to net zero.

The aviation industry has set a collective goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, a target requiring significant advances in propulsion technology, SAF production scale and operational efficiency beyond what is available today. Electric and hydrogen-powered aircraft are in development but remain years from commercial viability at meaningful range and capacity. In the meantime, carbon offsetting, SAF adoption and fleet modernization represent the most effective tools available. Our broker partners stay current with industry developments and can advise on the latest sustainability options applicable to your flight.

  • Electric and hydrogen aviation: Several manufacturers are developing electric and hydrogen-powered aircraft for short-range commercial use. These technologies are promising but not yet available for charter operations at the range and capacity most missions require.

  • Industry commitments: Major aviation bodies including IATA and ICAO have set net-zero 2050 targets, driving investment in SAF production, fleet renewal and operational efficiency improvements across the commercial and charter sectors.

  • Broker partner engagement: Our broker partners monitor developments in aviation sustainability, participate in industry initiatives and update their client offerings as new tools, fuels and technologies become commercially available.

Sustainability

How IONA JETS and its broker partners approach environmental responsibility through carbon offset programmes, sustainable aviation fuel and industry-wide sustainability initiatives.

Frequently asked questions about sustainability and environmental responsibility.

Want to understand how environmental impact is addressed across the IONA JETS network? Below are answers to common questions about carbon offsetting, SAF and what options are available for your flight. Submit your request through the IONA JETS platform, and our broker partners will include sustainability options in their proposal on your behalf.

IONA JETS acts solely as a digital referral platform connecting clients with independent air charter brokers across private, commercial and cargo aviation. IONA JETS is not an air carrier or aircraft operator and does not operate any flights; all flights are quoted, contracted and performed exclusively by third‑party brokers and/or certified operators under their own licenses, terms and conditions and insurance policies. The descriptions provided on this website are of a general nature and reflect common practices and service standards within the air charter industry; they are for guidance only and do not constitute a guarantee that a particular service, configuration or feature will be available on every mission. All services remain subject to operational constraints, availability and applicable regulations, and the precise conditions of your trip or shipment will be confirmed by the broker partner at the time of booking. Any transport‑related obligations or liabilities rest solely with the contractual carrier and/or broker identified in the booking documentation.

What is the most effective way to reduce the environmental impact of a charter flight?

The most practical steps today are selecting a fuel-efficient aircraft matched to your actual needs, choosing direct routing over indirect connections, opting into carbon offset programmes and requesting SAF where available. Broker partners can advise on all of these options as part of your flight proposal.

4

Does IONA JETS have its own carbon offset programme?

IONA JETS does not operate its own offset programme. As a referral platform, we connect you with broker partners who offer their own verified carbon offset and SAF options. This allows you to access the sustainability programmes of established industry participants directly through your flight booking.

3

Is Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) available for charter flights?

SAF is available at a growing number of airports, though coverage remains limited and the cost is significantly higher than conventional jet fuel. Broker partners can check SAF availability for your specific route and offer Book and Claim alternatives where physical uplift is not possible at your departure point.

2

Can I offset the carbon emissions of my charter flight?

Yes. Several broker partners within our network offer opt-in carbon offset programmes funded by verified carbon credits. The cost and methodology vary by broker, and offset options can be included in your flight proposal so you can decide whether to participate based on your own environmental policy.
